The morning commute to work and school will be an interesting one here in New York.

Overnight rain, sleet, and freezing rain have left many roads slick and icy and that is going to cause some issues for commuters.

Many parts of New York remain under a winter weather advisory today as the storm front is moving across the state.

The good news is that the weather is expected to warm up later in the morning and turn much of the sleet and freezing rain into just rain. That means the afternoon commute should be much better than the morning one.

Here are some tips to make sure you get to school and/or work safely this morning.

1. Reduced your speed. This will give you extra time to react to any issue. This also means you need to give yourself more time to get where you need to be.

2. Accelerate and decelerate slowly. Slamming on the gas or brake could end up making your vehicle slip on the ice.

3. Don't use cruise control. You want to stay alert when driving in icy conditions. Using your feet to start and stop will keep you alert, plus give you better control of your speeds at all times.

If you are traveling this morning, make sure to be careful.
