It has been a sloppy, icy start to our morning commute this morning in Western New York.

Early morning ice, sleet, and snow have caused icy conditions on roads all across Western and that has caused plenty of issues and accidents.

Here is a look at some of the accidents that have taken place in Western New York this morning according to NITTECH.com.

  • I-86 West - I-86 West is closed from Exit 23 (Route 219) to Exit 21 (Route 219) in Carrollton because of a crash. Reported 7:03 am.
  • Route 33 West - Crash on Route 33 West beyond Grider Street in Buffalo. The left lane is closed. Reported 6:55 am.
  • I-290 West - Crash on I-290 West beyond Exit 7 (Main St) in Amherst. The right lane is closed. Reported 6:46 am.
  • I-290 West - Crash on I-290 West beyond Exit 7 (Main St) in Amherst. The left lane is closed. Reported 6:42 am, updated 6:43 am.
  • I-90 East - Crash on I-90 East beyond Exit 54 (Route 400) in West Seneca. The left lane is closed. Reported 6:42 am. (
  • Route 400 North - Route 400 North is closed at Olean Rd in Aurora because of a crash. Reported 6:38 am.

We are under a winter weather weather advisory for all of Western New York until 1 pm this afternoon. The biggest issue is icy road conditions, especially on side roads and over bridges.

The nasty weather will continue this afternoon as well. The sleet and snow will change over to mainly rain but the winds will start to pick up. A wind advisory is in place for Western New York starting today at 4 pm and going until Friday morning at 10 am.

We could see wind gusts between 30 and 40 miles per hour and that could also have an impact on the commute home today.
