While there will be a massive improvement in the weather for most of New York State heading into the weekend, some parts of the state are still dealing with severe winter weather.

There are parts of New York State that are still under winter weather alerts.

In Western New York, there is still a lake effect snow warning in place for Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties until Saturday morning at 4 am. Those areas could see an additional 6 inches to 12 inches of snow today and with windy conditions, travel in the Southern Tier could be hazardous.


A winter weather advisory is in place for Herkimer and Fulton counties starting at 7 pm tonight and lasting until 4 pm on Saturday. Up to 6 inches could fall and it will have an impact on travel in the area.

The best bet if you are traveling this weekend to make check before you leave and be prepared for condtions to change very quickly.
