There was some very big news put out by New York Governor Kathy Hochul this week.

Here is a novel idea, if the State has collected so much extra "sales tax", instead of sending out a one time check of $300 or $500, how about just lowering the sales tax? New York State had a $3 billion dollar surplus.

Use that money for the current programs and funding and lower the overall sales tax. New York State has the 10th highest sales tax in the entire country at 8.53% and that doesn't include county and town taxes.

If the governor and the New York State government really wanted to help out millions of New Yorkers, drop the sales tax rate.

Currently, four states, New Hampshire, Montana, Oregon, and Delaware do not have state sales taxes.

I know what you are thinking, how will we pay for all these programs offered by the state? How about this, plan better. Get competitive with bids and cut certain programs if they only benefit a few.

If the governor really cared about all New Yorkers, she would work on a plan that would benefit every single person living in the state. That plan is to lower the state sales tax.
