It looks like the month of March got the memo to come in like a lion this year, at least weather-wise.

The first week of March will be a wild one here in Western New York as plenty of different types of weather from Sunshine to rain, calm to windy gusts, and even snow and ice later in the week.

It has been a cold and snowy winter and a lot of that snow is still on the ground, which could lead to a major flood issue this week in Western New York as temperatures are expected to soar on Tuesday and Wednesday. We could see temperatures in the 50s before they will drop back into the 30s as we head towards the weekend.

Due to the warm-up, flooding could be a major issue for parts of Western New York and that has led the National Weather Service to issue a Flood Watch for all Western New York and into parts of Northern New York along Lake Ontario.

The Flood Watch is in place starting tomorrow afternoon and lasting until Thursday afternoon as the warm weather could cause melting snow to swell creeks and rivers to flood levels. Ice jams are also possible, which could cause flooding as well.

Heavy rain Tuesday and Wednesday will be the biggest concerns when it comes to flooding as well, with almost an inch of rain expected over a 48 hours period during the middle of the week.

Temperatures are expected to drop back into the 30s on Thursday with possible snow likely in the afternoon and continuing into the weekend.
