Another round of extreme cold is on tap for New York today and that has lead to much of the state to be under a cold weather advisory.

Today is expected to be the final day of this round of extreme cold and temperatures are expected to remain in the single digits for much of the state.

The Cold Weather Advisory is expected to remain in place until 10 am this morning for Western New York and in place until Noon for Central and Northern New York.

On top of the cold weather, winds are producing wind chills in the negatives. Some places in the Southern Tier like Jamestown are facing wind chills of -25 this morning.

The good news is that a warming trend is coming back to the state later this afternoon and into the weekend.

Temperatures are expected to get above freezing on Thursday and stay around there through Sunday night. We should be in the 30s for the rest of January which means this month could end up being the coldest January in New York history.
