Things might look a little bit hazy in Western New York today.

Smoke from the wildfires in Canada and in the Western Part of the United States is sweeping across Lake Erie and into Western New York.

The smoke will not only bring a haze to the 716, but it will also reduce the quality of the air across Western New York.

The smoke started to move into the area early on Sunday morning and will continue through the day today.


According to the website, fire.airnow.gov, the air quality in some parts of Western New York is already at a Moderate level.

Most of the alerts have parts of Western New York in the Moderate to Good level of air quality but that could diminish as the day goes on and the smoke moves into the area.

You may also smell the smoke as it hangs near ground level throughout the day.

Today's smoke won't be as bad as it was last summer when parts of Western New York had unhealthy levels of air quality.

Last summer there were several massive wildfires just West of Western New York and the smoke from those wildfires came across the region over a several-day period.

We could have our air quality impacted by these wildfires over the next couple of days as the jet stream is expected to sweep the smoke into and across New York.
