On average, New York State gets around 9 tornados a year, so this month has been well above normal for tornado weather.

The damage from these tornados caused New York Governor Kathy Hocul to issue a state of emergency to help with the clean-up efforts across the state.
The state of emergency will allow local communities to access State Aid easier and also allow state vehicles from the State's Department of Transportation to be used in the clean-up around the state.
The good news is that the weather looks like it will be calm heading into this weekend.
