It was a wild weather day in Western New York this past Tuesday, and officials with the National Weather Service in Buffalo confirmed that a tornado did in fact touchdown in Western New York on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has confirmed that a tornado did touch down in Western New York during Tuesday's storm. The tornado was on the ground for 3 minutes and reached wind speeds of 107 miles per hour, making it an EF-1 tornado.

On average, there are between 8 and 10 confirmed tornadoes in New York State each year. That number has jumped to an average of around 16 per year since the 1990s, with over 20 tornadoes confirmed in 2024.
