$50,000 worth of free kids' books will be given away across parts of Western New York. It is all part of the funding received by area officials from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library project.

There are more than 50 different zip codes across the region that are part of the program.

What Is Dolly Parton's Imagination Library?

For the past 30 years, Dolly Parton's foundation has provided free books for kids across the country and across the world. Dolly started her foundation to help others achieve their dreams like she did. Since she started the Imagination Library, over 287 million books have been sent to more than 3.1 million children.

The program is open to kids from birth until they turn five years old. When you sign up your child, they get at least one free book a month until their 5th birthday.

A child's first book is usually sent out 8-12 weeks after you register and are approved by the local Imagination Library official.

After that, your child will get a new book every month.

All books are picked based on your child's age. The younger kids will get more picture books with fewer words, while older kids will get more text and interactive books.
