Even as we are finally thawing out and enjoying some above-average temperatures for this time of the year in New York, this February will go down as one of the coldest in New York State.

We started the month with some decent weather but that seemed to fall apart mid-month and we saw temperatures drop into the teens and single digits as the Polar Vortex pushed some very cold arctic air our way.

Based on the temperatures collected between February 1st and February 23rd, this February will be one of the coldest in recent years.

In Buffalo, the average temperature this month is around 26 degrees, making it the coldest February in 10 years.

In Syracuse, the average temperature for this month was around 27 degrees, making it the coldest February in 6 years.

This month was also very snowy for parts of New York. Syracuse has received the most snow so far this winter with 105 inches of snow. Rochester is just behind Syracuse with 82 inches of snow and Buffalo is in 3rd place for the Golden Snowball Award with 76 inches of snow.
