Starting today, businesses in New York will have to make a big change.

A new law goes into effect on February 9th that will require all New York State agencies to have at least one employee who is dedicated to helping veterans.

This person's sole job is to assist veterans with communication and other issues that arise while the veteran is working with that state agency.

The New York State Senate Bill S7544 was proposed by New York Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton and was signed into law by Governor Kathy Hocul late last year.

The veteran liaison will be paid for by the current state agency budgets and will be used to help ease any burdens that veterans run into while working with that state agency.

It is up to the current management of each state agency to declare which employee will be named the Veteran liaison for each department.
