First Of Its Kind Law Coming To New York State
January 1st, 2025 will be a historic day in New York State as a new law will go into effect.
New York State will be the first state in America to require private companies to provide up to 20 hours of Paid Prenatal Leave.

Employers in New York State will be required to provide twenty hours of paid sick leave for prenatal care for employees who are pregnant.
The new law amends the current New York State Labor Law 196-b, which requires employers to provide at least 40 hours of paid time off.
The new law requires employers to provide the prenatal care time for expecting parents to use to receive health services like examinations, medical procedures, monitoring and testing, and other services with a healthcare provider related to the pregnancy.

The new law will allow pregnant employees to use the time in hourly increments, which will be paid at the employee's regular pay rate.

Employers will not have to pay employees for unused prenatal care time at the end of the year or at the end of the employee's employment with the company.
