Two people suffered injuries after a CSX train and a tractor trailer collided on Ganson Street in Buffalo on Tuesday morning.

Surveillance video from a local business captured the dramatic explosion when a slow moving CSX train, traveling in reverse, smashed into a tractor trailer as it pulled up to the tracks at the wrong moment.

According to Buffalo Fire Commissioner, Garnell Whitfield,

“The explosion was caused by the tractor trailer. It’s powered by natural gas. It had natural gas cylinders on it and one of those cylinders was impinged upon and did explode, and caused the fire."

Whitfield confirmed that the train conductor suffered burns over 18 percent of his body. The driver of the tractor trailer also was also treated for burn injuries at the scene, and both men were taken to ECMC.
