If you are known as a "Lead Foot" and like to go way over the posted speed limit, you might end up spending some time in jail.

"Super Speeder" Laws In The United States

At the beginning of July, the state of Florida passed a new "Super Speeder" law, where if you are caught going over 100 miles per hour, you could face up to 30 days in jail and up to a $500 fine.

Only one other state has a "Super Speeder" law in place. That is Georgia, and if you are caught going over 85 miles per hour, you will be tagged as a "Super Speeder." While they won't put you in jail, the fines are pretty massive. You are charged an extra $200 on top of whatever fines and penalties were already given.

Is A "Super Speeder" Law Coming To New York?

As of right now, there is no "super speeder" law in New York.

A bill has been proposed that would label serial speeders as "Super speeders" and those people would have to have speed assistance devices installed on their vehicles if the driver accumulates eleven or more points on their driving record during a 24 month period, or receives 6 speed camera or red light camera tickets during a twelve month period.

There is nothing that lawmakers are working on regarding setting a certain speed limit as of right now.

Of course, if Florida sees a decrease in speeders and an increase in fine money, many states, not just New York, could end up adopting their law.
