The board of directors for New York State United Teachers has passed a resolution that calls for the restriction on personal devices like cell phones during the school day.

The resolution states that New York State United Teachers is for a state-wide policy of restrictions on cell phones by students during the school day.

- Such restrictions should be designed locally, with input from parents, educators, unions, and other stakeholders, specifically addressing alternative communication methods and systems for parents and caregivers.
- Educators should not bear the sole or primary responsibility for the implementation or enforcement of these policies.
- State resources should be available for implementation costs so that individual schools or districts are not financially burdened by any required investment.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently spoke on a possible ban on cell phones across the state with ABC News.
Several school districts in New York have already put in a "No Cell Phone" policy this school year and official with the State and with New York State United Teachers will be looking at how those programs work out this school year.
