
Parents Are Super Frustrated Over “Days Off” In New York
This weekend will be a tough one for parents across New York State.
As we get ready to head into the long Memorial Day weekend, parents of school-aged kids are going to feel like the school system is messing with them.
Students In New York State Have Friday Off This Year
For the first time that I can remember, students in New York State will have the Friday before Memorial Day off. Usually, kids will have Monday off like most adults, since it is a federal holiday.
But this year, students also have Friday off, while a lot of parents do not. This can put many of the parents in a bind. Some parents will have to take one of their PTO days to be home with the kids.
Parents In New York State Feel Frustrated
Some parents will have to rely on family or friends to watch the kids at home if they can't get the day off, and some parents might be forced to take the kids into work with them if they have no other choice.

This is not like the old days when many parents were stay-at-home parents. In most families in New York, both parents have jobs. That leaves little wiggle room for odd days off for kids.
Over the years, New York State has added extra holidays to the school year, which can put stress on the parents who work.
