A 14-year-old North Tonawanda girl appears to be the driving force behind EA Sports' decision to include a female hockey player on its new NHL 12 video game.

Lexi Peters apparently wrote the CEO of EA Sports  a letter last year inquiring why the NHL game did not give players the option to create a female player.  The game has traditionally only used male players.

Lexi told WGRZ-TV  EA Sports responded initially saying "no we can't and they have to talk to the NHL and it just wouldn't work out."  A few months later though, EA Sports had a change of heart.  Company officials not only agreed to include the option to create a female player in its new version  NHL 12, they also decided to make the new player in Lexi's likeness.  (Lexi plays for the Niagara Junior Purple Eagles.)

I would call it a smart move on behalf of EA Sports.  So many young girls are playing hockey these days, and many are playing with the boys.  Sooner or later, one of them will make it to the big time!

Congratulations to Lexi for breaking the ice for all the rest of the girls !
