This month is full of amazing things to see in the sky high above New York State, and it starts tonight.

Full Buck Moon

Tonight's full moon is called the "Full Buck Moon." It is named that because many young male deer will start to grow their antlers around this time of year.

The moon will be at full illumination around 4:37 pm, and should be nice and bright all night long.

Moon Near Saturn And Neptune

Coming up on July 16th, you will have a chance to see a couple of planets in our solar system. The moon will be aligned near Saturn and Neptune, which means on a clear night, you should be able to see the two planets near the moon in the sky above New York.

Perseid Meteor Shower

Get ready to see plenty of "fireballs" in the sky when the Perseid Meteor Shower becomes visible starting on July 17th. The meteor shower should be visible through the end of the month and into the beginning of August.

Double Meteor Showers In The Sky

While the Perseid Meteor shower continues, at the time of the month on July 30th and 31st, the South Delta Aquarid Meteor Shower will hit its peak. That is two meteor showers at once.

According to NASA, the Perseid meteor shower is "considered the best meteor shower of the year." The show typically peaks mid-August. For 2023, the shower peaked around the world between Aug. 12-14. The latest edition of the meteor shower created an extra special light show in the sky. Here is what the Perseid meteor shower looked like across the globe.
