Is A Massive Heatwave Coming To Western New York?
Mother Nature is cranking up the heat this weekend in Western New York, but will be be enough for a heatwave?
While it will be plenty warm for you to sweat, will the temperatures reach the point where we can say "heatwave" in the 716?
What Is A Heatwave?
According to the National Weather Service, a "heatwave" can be declared after a region gets three or more days of high temperatures that are 90 degrees or more.
Using that methodology, along with the long-range forecast from the National Weather Service in Buffalo, there will be a chance of a heatwave in Western New York.
Is A Heatwave Coming To Western New York?
Starting with today, we have a forecasted high of 86. We would need some help to hit 90 today.
Saturday's forecasted high is 89 degrees. It is gets one degree warmer. That would be day one of the heatwave.
Sunday's forecasted high is 91 degrees. That would be day two of a possible heatwave, and we would be two-thirds of the way there.
Monday's forecast is calling for a high of 91, which would be day three of the heatwave if we hit 90 on Saturday.
Now, if we don't hit 90 on Saturday and get to 91 on Sunday and Monday, there is an outside chance we could still get three days of 90 degrees or warmer.
The forecast for Tuesday is a mix of sun and clouds with a high near 88. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms, but if that weather front moves in later than expected, that could cause the temps to get above 90.

If we use the predicted highs from the NWS in Buffalo, the answer is no. We will get closed, and if things just work out, we could have three to five days of 90 over above. But right now it looks like it will just be really hot in Western New York.
