Buffalo Area Schools To Close For 2nd Day In Western New York

After a short reprieve, another winter storm is brewing and is on the way to Western New York.

Western New York is just truly starting to dig out in the last few days after winter storm Gerri blew Buffalo's doors down and dropped several feet of snow all over the area; now it seems the lake effect winter machine is about to turn on again and we're due to have more snowfall in 716.

Roads are just now truly clear enough in some areas to travel freely, but with another major storm on the way, many school districts have decided to shut down schools for another to keep kids safe and off the streets.

Due to the snowfall accumulations and the anticipated severe weather event starting tomorrow, the Buffalo Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. All students and staff are to remain at home.

Many Western New York Schools To Remain Closed On Wednesday

School districts all over the region have announced they will close or remain closed on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

The Buffalo Public School District, the 2nd largest district in the state, has instructed its nearly 30,000 students to stay warm and cozy at home tomorrow.

Other districts in Western New York are following suit. Williamsville Central, Amherst Central, Cheektowaga Central, Ken-Ton, Orchard Park Central, and virtually every other district plan to shut down classes on Wednesday as well.

Primary and Secondary schools in the area aren't the only ones shutting down tomorrow as Buffalo State University, Canisius University, Daemen University, and the University at Buffalo have all announced they are closing on Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, these closings are justified since the storm barreling down on Buffalo is to be extreme.
