“No Fly Zone” Issued For Western New York Location

The weather around Niagara County and much of Western New York has been rather mild. With many kids on their winter break from school, this is a great time to do some exploring around the region. There is one popular spot that we found that is on an FAA no fly list.

We are blessed here in Western New York to have so many incredible places to see and things to do. The change of seasons, the proximity to the Great Lakes and Canada, and the people make living and visiting WNY such a great destination. But as much as we want to explore it all, there are some restrictions.

It was a cold and wintery afternoon when we took our four kids to see the beauty of Niagara Falls on the American side. As we walked around and I tried to answer as many questions as I could, we all learned a little something. For example, I had no idea that there was a drone flight restriction in this area. Don't get me wrong, it makes complete sense. I just didn't know until I read this sign below.

The sign reads:

FAA Restricted Airspace---NO DRONE FLIGHTS PERMITED

According to the law, and the sign, there is a $1500 fine that goes along with being caught/convicted of flying where you should not be.

I think some may take this area for granted. True, the Canadian side of Niagara Falls is glisty and glamorous, but we can enjoy the natural beauty and history of the American side up-close. With the great work by the parks department, we have access to one of the major, natural wonders of the world. It is great for a selfie or family photo opportunity. You just have to leave the drone at home.
