Here are the top trending stories for your Friday.

1 –Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida late last night and as it moves north it has already been downgraded to a Tropical Storm this morning. We will get some remnants of the tropical storm here in Western New York later this weekend with some clouds and rain moving in late Saturday and overnight into Sunday morning. Today will be dry with a mix of sun and clouds and a high near 75.

2 –Bills Mafia got some good news yesterday as an injured linebacker and Defensive Captain Terrel Bernard was back on the practice field. He was wearing a red non-contact practice jersey while working on drills. He had already been ruled out for Sunday’s Game against the Baltimore Ravens but could be back in time for the Bills' week 5 game against the Houston Texans. Kickoff against the Ravens is set for Sunday night around 8:20 pm.

3 – If you believe in old wives' tales this is not good news, it seems that there has been an increase in the amount of black squirrels in Western New York. That could mean that we are gearing up for a colder-than-normal winter. Old wives' tale say squirrels will have more black fur to absorb more sunlight and stay warmer during colder winters. Fingers crossed that this is just an old wives tale.

4 – We are just a couple of days away from the start of October and that means cooler temperatures are coming our way. The Old Farmer’s Almanac is predicting the first frost here in Buffalo will be coming up on October 6th which is one of the earliest dates in New York State. The long-range forecast for the 716 is calling for a wet and cool October.

5 – If you are traveling this weekend make sure you double-check your flight status before heading out to the airport. Due to Hurricane Helene, there are already flight delays from Buffalo to Atlanta and Charlotte this morning and this delays could increase throughout the weekend.

6 – The Buffalo Sabres announced their captain for the upcoming season. Wearing the C on their jersey this season will be former 1st round pick Rasmus Dahlin. The Sabres announced the move online with the help of current Buffalo Bill Captain Josh Allen. The Sabres will kick off the new season next Friday at home against the Detroit Redwings
