Truck owners across New York State should be on alert after a massive recall was issued earlier this week.

Ford issued a recall for over 500,000 F-150 trucks due to an issue with the transmission. The transmission can unexpectedly downshift to first gear no matter how fast the truck is going and that could lead to accidents.

The recall affects certain F-150 pickup trucks from the 2014 model year. The Ford F-150 series is the most popular truck sold in the United States.

U.S. safety regulators stated that the unexpected downshifting can cause drivers to lose control of the trucks which could lead to an accident.

Ford issued the recall after regulators began an investigation into reports of unexpected downshifting back in March of this year.

Ford is expected to send out recall letters to owners of the trucks affected by the recall over the next several weeks and repairs if needed will be done for free.
