Heavy downpours and potentially damaging thunderstorms are headed to Western New York this weekend.

Today we will start the day with some decent weather and we will have mostly sunny skies for most of our Friday.

Rain showers will move into the region late this evening and the rain will continue through Saturday. Some places in Western New York could get over an inch of rain by Saturday afternoon.
The rain will come in waves with possible heavy downpours across the 716 through Saturday morning and evening. This could lead to possible flooding in certain areas of Western New York.

According to WIVB meteorologist, the risk of damaging wind is high for Western New York on Saturday. There is a slight risk of flooding and hail while there is a low risk of possible tornados.
The good news is that the weather front is moving fast and should be out of the area by Saturday night. We could still see some light rain on and off on Sunday before sunshine is back in the forecast for early next week.
The weather looks decent for the 4th of July as well, but that could change since we are still 6 days away from America's Independence Day.
