The Buffalo Sabres have come back from the NHL midseason break with back-to-back wins and that has fans wondering if this team could make the playoffs this season.

The Sabres haven't made the NHL playoffs since the 2010-11 season which is the current longest playoff drought in the NHL.

So could they snap that streak this season? Right now the Sabres have 53 points and are in last place in the Atlantic Divison and in the Eastern Divison.

The Sabres would have to go on a magical run to end the season in the playoffs. If the Sabres can win 20 of their final 26 games of the season, they would end up with 93 points to wrap up the season.

Historically, and team that got at least 91 points in the regular season has made the playoffs.

Currently, the Detroit Redwings and Columbus Blue Jackets hold the final wild card spots for the playoffs. Each one of those teams has played two more games than the Sabres.

The Redwings have 66 points and the Blue Jackets have 64 points.

So the Sabres would need each of those teams to hit a losing streak at some point during the next 24 games.

Of course, since the Sabres are at the bottom of the Eastern Division there are still seven other teams ahead of Buffalo who are also looking at getting one of those wild card spots.

While it would take a lot of luck and hard work, there is an outside chance that the Buffalo Sabres will make the playoffs.
