It will be a busy weekend on the roads across New York State, and if you are traveling, expect to see a lot more flashing lights this weekend.

New York State Police Ramping Up Patrols This Weekend

As part of their Stop-DWI High Visibility campaign, the New York State Police, along with local police, will have extra patrols out over the long Memorial Day Weekend.

The official campaign begins today and lasts until Monday. During the campaign, extra police will be out patrolling and setting up DWI checkpoints.

New York State Police Memorial Day Campaign Tickets

Last year, during the same timeframe, New York State Police issued 10,949 tickets and made 225 arrests for DWI during the three-day Memorial Day weekend.

Those numbers were similar to the numbers in 2023, when State Police issued over 13,000 tickets and made 219 arrests for DWI

Here is a look at the breakdown of some of the tickets that were issued in 2024.

Speeding: 3,076
Distracted Driving: 356
Seatbelt Violations: 1,663
Move Over Law: 106

New York State Police also responded to 239 crashes, including 58 personal injury crashes.

Stop-DWI High Visibility Campaign 2025

The Stop-DWI High Visibility campaign will continue this summer across New York State. State Police will kick off their 100 days of Summer campaign on June 5th. They will have extra patrols out every Thursday through Sunday from June 5th until Labor Day weekend.
