Many schools across Western New York started today, and parents across the 716 will be posting those back-to-school photos. If you are one of those parents, there are some steps to make sure you are posting safely on social media sites.

I am one of those parents who always posted back-to-school photos of my son Avry every year, and little did I know that those photos could have ended up in the hands of some very bad people.

• If you want to post and be safe about it, here are some things you should know/do:
• Don't post your child's full name, the name of the school, and/or the name of their teacher
• Keep private information like your home address, the street you live on, school bus number out of any photos you post.
• Don't post times like school start/end time, school bus pick-up times, or times you drop off your child at school.

Days Off For the 2026-27 School Year In New York State

Schools in New York State have to be in session at least 180 days, which means there are plenty of days off during the school year.
