The National Weather Service in Buffalo confirmed on Thursday that a third tornado did touchdown in Western New York on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-0 tornado did touch down in Genessee County near the town of Darien. That tornado has wind speeds of 75 miles per hour.

Two other tornados were already confirmed on Wednesday afternoon. The National Weather Service announced that an EF-0 tornado touched down around 12:40 pm on Wednesday in the town of Eden. That tornado had wind speeds of 85 miles per hour.

The other tornado that was confirmed was an EF-1 tornado in Chautauqua County in the town of Arkwright. That tornado touched down around 12:06 pm and had wind speeds of up to 110 miles per hour. That tornado traveled around 3 miles before ending around the town of Hanover.

Overall the National Weather Service in Buffalo issued a record 18 tornado warning on Wednesday. Yesterday's warning broke the old record of 7 warnings issued in a 24 hour span.

Here is a look at the deadliest tornados that have touched down in New York State history.

5 - September 3rd, 1993 - 2 people were killed - An EF1 tornado touched down in a corn field in Batavia and moved northeast. As the tornado crossed Route 5, it lifted a delivery van into the air and dropped it onto an oncoming tractor-trailer. Both drivers were killed instantly.

4 - October 14th, 1989 - 2 people were killed - An EF2 tornado moved through McDonough for around 2 miles. The tornado grew to about 300 feet in length and injured three people while killing two others.

3 - May 2nd, 1982 - 2 people were killed - An EF3 tornado moved through Sherman, New York for around 28 miles. The tornado reached 450 feet in width and killed two people.

2 - July 8th, 2014 - 4 people were killed - An EF2 tornado touched down in Smithfield just 2 miles to the northeast of Peterboro. This tornado moved 2.5 miles and a path and resulted in 4 fatalities in Smithfield. Three homes were destroyed and 5 additional homes sustained significant damage.

1 - November 16th, 1989 - 9 killed were killed - An EF1 tornado touched down near Monroe New York, and moved for 9 miles killing 9 people on the ground. 18 people were also injured and this tornado caused nearly $25 million dollars in damage.

Generally speaking, tornadoes aren't a common occurrence in New York state. Tornados do still happen. Here's a look at some of the strongest storms:

On July 8, 2021, a tornado touched down at Woods Valley Ski Area and then twisted its way northeast into downtown Westernville. The tornado caused considerable damage along Main Street. Roofs were blown off houses, trees were uprooted, there were downed powerlines and they were without power for days. Thankfully there were no fatalities. Here we have exclusive photos that show the scary strength of the storm.
