Carl Paladino’s proposal to construct a parking ramp and hotel, offices, and apartments at Franklin and West Tupper streets means tearing down a historical apartment house build in 1886.

The building located at 329 Franklin Street was known as the Bachelor.  It is the oldest downtown building designed by Green & Wicks, one of the few buildings a part of downtown that is now made up of surface parking.

Ellicott Development plans to include the historic Forbes Theatre into the mixed-use project—a credit to Paladino and his firm, which has done multiple historic rehabilitation projects in recent years. Ellicott Development has a contract to purchase the Bachelor from Nick Sinatra’s BN Medical Campus Rental Group LLC, which acquired the building in 2014.

What do you think?  Are you in support of this development project or think we should protect this building?  Leave a comment.
