November Snow Totals Underwhelming Across New York
Despite some heavy lake effect snow the week after Thanksgiving, the snowfall totals for New York State were underwhelming.
The National Weather Service in Buffalo just put out some of the snow totals for the month of November and it seems that New York State is way off from the yearly average for snowfall.
Even with the lake effect snow, most of New York is well below the average total for snow for the month of November.
Will it get better as we get into December? The answer is probably not.

According to the long ranger forecast from the Old Farmer's Almanac, we are looking for a milder and wetter December across the state.
Most of December looks to bring a mix of sun and rain and temperatures well above freezing.
Dates | Weather Conditions |
---|---|
Dec 1-3 | Snow north, rain south; turning cold |
Dec 4-8 | Sunny, chilly |
Dec 9-18 | Rainy periods; cold, then mild |
Dec 19-23 | Sunny, chilly |
Dec 24-27 | Rainy, warm |
Dec 28-31 | Snow and rain; cold, then warm |

We are dealing with an El Nino weather system for the first time in several years and it looks like this winter could be milder than in years past.
