Memorial Day weekend was a very busy one for New York State Troopers and local police.

During the New York State Troopers annual "STOP-DWI" High visibility engagement campaign during Memorial Day weekend, Troopers wrote over 10,000 tickets.

The campaign for Memorial Day kicked off on Friday, May 24th and went the entire weekend until Monday, May 27th. During these four days, New York State Troopers and other local police departments had more than normal amounts of patrols out on the roads.

According to a press release from New York State Governor Kathy Hochul, police issued 10,949 tickets and arrested 225 people for DWI over Memorial Day weekend.

Troopers arrested 225 people for DWI and investigated 239 crashes, including 58 personal injury crashes. The good news is that there were no fatal crashes.

As part of the campaign, Troopers targeted speeding and aggressive drivers across the state. Here is a sampling of the total tickets that were issued:

Speeding: 3,076
Distracted Driving: 356
Seatbelt Violations: 1,663
Move Over Law: 106
