According to the New York State Governor's office, “Operation Hardhat” and Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement Program are in place this week to help Protect Highway Workers.
State Troopers or local police officers are dressed as highway maintenance workers in active NYSDOT or Thruway work zones across New York, identifying and citing motorists for a number of violations, including disobeying flagging personnel, speeding through work zones, cell phone and seatbelt use, and/or violations of the State’s Move Over law
Last year during the same campaign, New York State Troopers and local police cited over 2900 drivers for a variety of issues.
Some of those tickets were issued for speeding, cell phone usage, seat belts, and failure to move over or obey traffic control devices, among other infractions.
