It is the start of a new month and now is the perfect time to see if New York State owes you any money.

Every month New York State collects money that cannot be returned to the rightful owner and then tries to find them.

This money comes from rental deposits, closed bank accounts, unreturned taxes and more.

The Office of the New York State's Comptroller currently has over $19 billion dollars in unclaimed funds and some of that money could be yours.

The best part it is very easy to see if New York owes you money. So far this year, New York State has given back over $400 million dollars to New Yorkers.

After searching the New York State Comptroller's website, if you find that you have unclaimed money with New York State, you can start the claim process right online. You can also submit your claim via mail.
