Today is July 1st and employers in the biggest city in New York State are now required to post this or face getting fined.

A new bill that was signed into law by New York Governor Kathy Hochul will go into effect today.

The new bill calls for all employers, no matter the size of the business, in New York City to post a multilingual “Your Rights at Work” poster in a visible location and also provide a copy of the New York State's Bill of Rights for workers to all current employees and all new hires from July 1st on.

The Bill of Rights for workers in New York City dictates that everyone has the right to work in New York City no matter their immigration status.

The law also provides a No Retaliation section where it is:

It is illegal to punish, fire, or take any adverse employment action against workers for exercising or trying to exercise their rights

If you feel your rights are being violated by your employer in New York City you have several different options to protect yourself.

You can go online and visit nyc.gov/workers to learn more about your rights and get content information to file a complaint if needed.

You can also call  311 (212-NEW-YORK outside NYC) and specify the worker protection law to the operator to get connected to the right person.
