The Rochester, New York based Monroe Muffler and Brake company announced they plan on closing over 100 stores nationwide.

These stores are all considered to be underperforming and will be closed during the 2026 fiscal year.

Monro Muffler To Close 145 Stores Nationwide

During an earnings call, new Monro, Inc, New President and CEO Peter Fitzsimmons announced the company is set to close 145 underperforming stores across the country. Current, there are as 1,260 company-owned stores and 48 franchisee owned locations in 32 different states.

Fitzsimmons didn't announced which locations would be shutdown during the call, but did say the closings are expected to happen before the end of the 2026 fiscal year.

Monro Muffler Was Founded In Rochester, New York

Monro Muffler has been around since the 1960s when Monro founder Chuck August turned his Midas Muffler shops into Monro shops. He decided to start his own business after having a disagreement with the owners of Midas on what services would be offered at the shops.

Monro has grown to become the 2nd largest automotive services company in North America based on locations and revenue.

Why Is Monro Muffler And Brake Closing Down Locations?

The new President and CEO stated that the company suffered a 4.9% decrease in sales last year, and closing underperforming stores will help offset some of those losses in the upcoming fiscal year.

The locations of stores closing have not been announced yet.
