Another day another scam here in Western New York.

It seems that online scams are becoming more and more common and every day we get word of a new scam.

Recently one of the biggest scams involved tolls and the EZ pass. Thousands of people mentioned they received texts or emails saying they owed money for tolls with many of the texts citing locations the person had never visited.

Another big scam involved a $1400 check that people were owed by the IRS. Officials with the IRS stated that they never ask for personal information via text, email, or social media.

The latest scam involves a local dentist's office here in Western New York. An email sent out to patients stated that the office of Lancaster Dental Associates was aware of the scam using their name and Amazon.

We are aware email scam that looks like it from our office/Amazon, but it is not. We ask that you do not open it, No need to call us, we are aware of it. Thank You.

Here are some ways to recognize that an email or text is a scam:
Generic Greeting - If the opening of the email or text is generic or states dear Sir/Ma'am it could be a scam. Most legit correspondents will have a specific name when they get sent.
Poor Grammer/Spelling - If the text/email has numerous misspelling or grammar errors chances are it is a scam.
Offer Too Good To Be True - If the offer in the text/email sounds too good to be true chances are it is and it is a scam.
