Dozens of Accidents Occurred During Driving Ban In Western New York

As Buffalo and Western New York try to dig after Winter Story Gerri dumping a few feet of snow on the 716, officials have decided to keep driving and travel bans in certain places around the region as it takes more time to clear snow from the roads.

Travel bans have been lifted in Kenmore, Tonawanda, Grand Island, Amherst, Clarence, Newstead, Colden, Hollands, Collins, Concord, and Sardinia. Even though the travel bans have been lifted in those areas, travel advisories remain in place.

Travel bans remain in place for the rest of Erie County, including the Cities of Buffalo and Lackawanna, along with Cheektowaga, West Seneca, Hamburg, Orchard Park, and other areas in the county. While travel bans remain in place, that has not stopped some Western New York people from taking to the roads.

According to officials, hundreds of tickets have been issued to drivers on the New York State Thruway and along roads in the region. Unfortunately, tickets aren't the only thing that drivers have been getting into since yesterday.

More Than 20 Accidents Have Happened During Travel Ban

In a briefing that Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown gave with other government officials, he updated the public to advise that dozens of accidents had occurred in Buffalo during the travel ban.

Several of those accidents caused property damage, along with other causing injuries.

While officials are happy that there have not been any fatalities from these accidents, they are urging the public to remain off the roads and to obey the travel bans as road crews work to clear the roads.

The winter snow bands have been moving all over Western New York, and according to the National Weather Service, the snow is not done yet.
