Buffalo Schools Remain Closed Due To Snow Storm In New York

Winter storm Gerri blew into Western New York and brought more than three feet of snow to areas of the 716. As Erie and Niagara counite were pummeled with snow over the weekend, government agencies issued a state of emergencies and driving bans to help keep folks off the roads and safe from being stranded as blizzard-like conditions bombarded the western end of the Empire State.

As the region is digging out and trying to prepare for an NFL Playoff game in Orchard Park, there remain many areas in the Buffalo region that are still struggling to clear snow and open roads to capacity.

Due to conditions on the ground in the City of Buffalo, officials from the Buffalo Public School system, New York's second-largest district, have announced they are canceling classes.

Buffalo Public Schools To Remain Closed On Tuesday

In an announcement the district made to parents, faculty, and the community, BPS officials stated that all Buffalo Public School District buildings will be closed on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

Also, this closure is not a remote class day - all students and staff have an old-fashioned snow day in Buffalo. Many Western New Yorkers consider this to be a good move for the district, considering that nearly 30,000 students would need to make their way across the city to one of Buffalo's more than 60 school buildings. With road conditions still questionable in many areas of the city, it is better to be safe than sorry.

With at least another foot of snow on the way to Western New York, Buffalo isn't the only district who are cancelling classes on Tuesday, January 16th. Both the Lackawanna City School District and West Seneca Central Schools have announced they will also remain closed on Tuesday.
