There’s no truer sign that Saint Patrick’s Day is around the corner than the return of a certain beloved sweet treat.

When you think of beverages used to celebrate the zany Irish holiday, your first thought may go to a beer like Guinness or a shot of whiskey. However, for many New Yorkers, their favorite way to celebrate is with one specific drink that’s only available around the time of St. Paddy’s.

Sure, we haven’t even hit Valentine’s Day yet, and our four-leaf clovers and other green decorations are still sitting in a box in the basement. But beginning today, we can start to get ready for St. Patrick’s Day by ordering a cult-favorite dessert that’s become synonymous with the upcoming Irish holiday.

Shamrock Shake Is Officially Back At McDonald’s

Beginning today, February 5th, customers can grab a Shamrock Shake off the McDonald’s menu for a limited time.

If it feels like the popular drink makes its annual debut earlier and earlier each year, you’re not imagining it. McDonald’s Shamrock Shake is now available earlier than ever -  over two weeks ahead of when we could get our hands on it last year.

The minty milkshake, which made its seasonal debut at McDonald’s in 1970, disappeared in several locations in New York State throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Since its triumphant return to all U.S. locations, it’s become a delicacy with a passionate following.

Although there are plenty of recipes out there to recreate the drink year-round, there’s nothing like the original Shamrock Shake from Mickey D’s. It’s admittingly not the healthiest option (a 16oz medium shake packs a whopping 560 calories), but since it’s only available for such a short period of time, we say go and treat yourself.

Oreo Shamrock McFlurry Also Back Earlier Than Ever

If you’re more of an ice cream connoisseur than a milkshake fan, joining the beloved Shamrock Shake on McDonald’s menu is the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry, complete with minty-flavored ice cream swirled with crushed Oreo cookies. Yum!

We can already see the cars lining up at McDonald’s drive-thrus across New York with customers clamoring to get their hands on the iconic St. Patrick’s Day staple.
