It was Sunday night when I stopped at the grocery store to grab a few items, and I was stunned by what I saw.

There are some golden rules to life that are pretty much universally understood: close the door behind you, don’t wear a white shirt when drinking red wine, leave things better than you found them, always stop at a kid’s lemonade stand when you have a chance, and so many others.

But the one golden rule to life that most people seem to struggle with is evident in the parking lot of any grocery store.

Put away your shopping cart.

I’ve seen people do this every now and again, but last night was by far the worst example of it I’ve ever seen.

I ran to the Tops Friendly Market on Broadway St. in Depew to grab something quick, when I saw carts scattered across the parking lot.

That wasn’t even the worst part; there were about 3 or 4 shopping carts TAKING UP A HANDICAP SPOT.

I took a picture because I was just stunned.

Of all the places to leave your cart, why on earth would you stack them up in one of the only spots reserved for people who absolutely need it?

That takes laziness to another level.

The handicap parking spaces are designed specifically to give a disabled person more room so they can move around their vehicle and assemble/disassemble their wheelchair (or other necessary equipment that they require). To leave a cart in this space should warrant a ticket of some sort, if you ask me.

Take your shopping cart back to the corral, and if you are one of the laziest people in Western New York, literally leave it anywhere ELSE. The handicap spaces need to be made available to those who need it.
