Breaking news out of the Middle East has people in Western New York paying close attention.

UPDATED Friday March 13th:

According to reports, a KC-135 refueling aircraft went down in western Iraq. As information about the crash began to circulate, Western New York became concerned.

What We Know About the KC-135 Crash

Updated reports Friday morning say that U.S. Central Command confirmed a U.S. KC-135 aircraft crashed while supporting American military operations related to the ongoing conflict with Iran.

"U.S. Central Command is aware of the loss of a U.S. KC-135 refueling aircraft. The incident occurred in friendly airspace during Operation Epic Fury, and rescue efforts are ongoing. Two aircraft were involved in the incident".

Details surrounding the crash remain limited as the situation continues to develop.

KC-135 Is A Familiar Plane in Western New York

The KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft involved in the crash is similar to the refueling planes operated by the 914th Air Refueling Wing, which is based at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station in Western New York.
