My 22 year old daughter was just in the hospital with kidney stones. I had a kidney stone about a year and a half ago, and one of the things we both had in common was not drinking enough water.

Kidney stones, or more importantly preventing them is not the only reason to drink water. Here are some others:

Water drives basic body performance.

Sipping water during the day can soothe stress-induced symptoms like headaches, tense muscles, fuzzy thinking, a pounding heart, and lack of energy.

A 2010 study revealed that drinking two full glasses of water before meals was associated with almost four pounds more weight loss in 12 weeks than people with a similar diet and no water.

Hydration keeps your mucus membranes in working order which in turn helps keep out germs such as cold and flu viruses. If you do catch a cold or virus the severity of your illness is more likely to be lower if you've been drinking a lot of water.

Your body's internal thermostat works better when you're well hydrated, water helps regulate body temperature.

Not drinking enough water can raise blood pressure. Dehydration causes blood vessels to constrict as the body strives to conserve water that it loses through perspiration, urination, and breathing. When this happens the heart pumps harder, bringing blood pressure up.
