Gas prices continue to trend downwards in 2023. According to AAA, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas is $3.45. That is down 22 cents from last month and is down 3 cents from January of 2022.
The cheapest gas in New York State can be found in Seneca County. The average price of a gallon of regular unlead gas is $3.28. The most expensive place in the state for gas is in Hamlin county where the average price of a gallon of regular unlead gas is $3.73.
Some counties in the state like Erie County have extended their own county gas tax holiday into 2023. That will help keep the price of gas down lower than the state average. In Erie County, the average price of regular unlead gas is $3.453 which is slightly lower than the state's average of $3.459.
As for diesel gas, the monthly average is down as well. The average cost of a gallon of diesel is $5.34 in New York. That is down almost 40 cents last month, but still way more than last year. In January of 2022, the average price for a gallon of diesel was $3.72.
While the trend of gas prices continues to creep downward, we are still paying more than we did in 2021. In January of 2021, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas was $2.42.
It looks like we won't drop below the 3-dollar mark anytime soon here in New York.
