Parts of New York saw highs in single digits with the wind chill in the negative 20s.

So can you freeze an egg just by cracking it outside? The answer is yes.
EXTRA: THIS WAS THE COLDEST DAY IN NEW YORK STATE HISTORY
According to indystar.com, it takes just over 3 minutes for an egg to freeze when the weather is below zero.
In about 3 minutes and 13 seconds, the egg went from ready to scramble to solid as a rock. So next time you're in the mood for a frozen omelette, we've already figured out the temperature and cook time for you. You're welcome.
So we know that it is possible. Check out some videos that people made showing them cracking frozen eggs.
In the video, the guy says that the temperature was -27 degrees. While we didn't get that cold here in New York over the weekend, the weather would have been cold enough for you to freeze an egg. Of course, you would have to be outside for several minutes for that to happen.
I recommend the next time it gets that cold, just watch the video while you are standing next to the fire so you can stay nice and toasty warm.
