DiCamillo Bakery Celebrates It’s 100th Anniversary

The DiCamillo Family Bakery hit a milestone anniversary.  They are celebrating 100 years as a WNY institution today.

The Bakery first opened 100 years ago in 1920.

The original store was located on 14th Street in Niagara Falls, but now its flagship office is at the newly rennovated Linwood Avenue location.

The owner, Matthew DiCamillo told News 4 (WIVB-TV) his great grandfather started the bakery. He says the success comes from the connection made with locals in the Cataract City.

DiCamillo’s was one of the first Italian bakeries to open in Niagara Falls. It operated in the basement of a three-story building with fresh bread delivered to locals by horse-drawn wagons.

In 1931, the bakery was bombed and the subject of an armed attack after eldest son Tom was approached by a mob collector looking for protection money and refused to pay.

Nick DiCamillo (or as I called him "Uncle Nick") was married to Rose, my grandmother's (Mary Chille) sister.  My Dad used to take us to the bakery to see Uncle Nick every Sunday morning after church.  Uncle Nick would always have some delicious baked treat for us.

DiCamillo’s Bakery now has five locations throughout Western New York open every day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
