The Athletic’s Matthew Fairburn is reporting that the Buffalo Sabres and goalie Malcolm Subban on a two-way deal which means he could end up playing in Rochester for the Americans for most of the season without having to go through waivers. The deal is worth $850,000.
Subban joined the Sabres last season after being traded to Buffalo in December. He ended up playing in four games for the Sabres and posted a 0-2-1 record with a .871 save percentage after being hurt against the Tampa Bay Lighting. The injury needed surgery and he was declared out for the season.
Most fans will remember Subban for signing the National Anthem. He sang the Anthem at KeyBank Center before the Sabres took on the Chicago Blackhawks near the end of the season.

Subban will now join Craig Anderson and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen on the Sabres roster as both netminders also re-signed with the Sabres this offseason. The Sabres are also expected to trade or sign a free agent goalie before the start of training camp.
Subban was drafted 24th overall, in the 2012 NHL draft by the Boston Bruins and ended up playing for the Bruins until 2017. The Las Vegas Knights claimed him off waivers that season and he stayed with Las Vegas until 2020 when he was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks.
