New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Commissioner of the New York City Police Department Raymond Kelly spoke to the media during a news conference to discuss a new terrorist threat on September 8, 2011 in New York City. U.S. officials announced Thursday evening that they have "specific, credible but unconfirmed" information about a potential threat against the United States in the New York and Washington, D.C. area. This threat would be coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Intelligence officials said the threat involved a car bomb on bridges or tunnels in New York City or Washington.

Law enforcement officials were pursuing three people who may be traveling to the U.S. or who have recently entered the country, based on the detailed information received by the U.S. intelligence community late Wednesday. The intelligence suggested that al-Qaida planned to car bomb one of the two cities that were hit 10 years ago.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said "there is no reason to panic."

Friday morning, police officers were seen stopping and searching box trucks as they approached the George Washington Bridge, in New York City.
