But why do we celebrate April Fool's Day?

WHAT IS APRIL FOOL'S DAY?

According to Histroy.com, April Fool's Day started in 1593 when the Western World changed over to a new calendar that started on January 1st. The old calendar's new year was on April 1st and news traveled slowly back then, so many people still celebrated the New Year on April 1st. These people were called April Fools because, with the new calendar, the New Year started on January 1st.

WHAT IS A PRANK?

Many people will try to pull a prank on someone. So what is the definition of a prank? According to dicentoary.com, a prank is "a practical joke or mischievous act."

WHY DO WE PULL PRANKS ON APRIL FOOL'S DAY?

This day is used to pull a prank without expecting retaliation from the person we pulled the prank on. Most people are more forgiving about being pranked on April Fool's Day than on other days since it is expected as part of the celebration.

Just be careful who you pull a prank on. According to a study done in 2023, 47 percent of Americans said that they found practical jokes annoying, while 45 percent said they were funny.
