This week there are fireworks going off all over New York State, and many people think something has to change.

"48-Hour" Firework Rule For New York?

In order to keep the peace in neighborhoods all over New York State, lawmakers should consider adopting a new rule for when fireworks can be used.

Let's call it the "48-Hour" rule. This means that you would be allowed to use legal fireworks anytime within 24 hours of July 4th. So basically, you would have a 48-hour window to use fireworks between July 3rd and July 5th.

Why Should New York Adopt a "48-Hour" Rule For Fireworks

I love fireworks, and I have shot off my fair share of fireworks in my life. I think the rule would be perfect to keep the peace in neighborhoods. People wouldn't have to hear fireworks days or weeks before or after the 4th of July, but with the rule, people who want to use the fireworks can still enjoy them.

Also, having a time period in place will allow people to set their expectations on when fireworks will be occurring. There are many people and pets that don't like fireworks, and hearing them randomly on a Tuesday can cause issues.

Those issued could be limited if they knew exactly what days fireworks would be used.

Who Benefits From A "48-Hour" Rule For Fireworks

It is a win-win for both sides. You can still use your fireworks, but people who don't like them or want to hear them for weeks know that there is only a limited amount of time they will be used.
